TikTok Acquisition: Can MrBeast Afford It and Pull Off the Deal?

A bill titled “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Application Act”, which seeks to ban TikTok, was introduced in the House of Representatives  on March 5, 2024, passed on March 13, 2024.

On March 14, 2024 the bill was presented in the Senate and passed on April 23, 2024. After the presidential signature of Joe Biden the bill became law. The law mandates that ByteDance either sell TikTok to an American entity or face ban in the United States.

Since then, TikTok has been described as a national security threat in the U.S.

However, the ban on Tiktok has not been enforced, as the deadline for its sale is January 19, 2025. if ByteDance fails to comply on the deadline,  Tiktok will be banned across the U.S.

Rumors are circulating that  Jimmy Donaldson, best known as MrBeast, the popular American YouTuber with 344 million subscribers, is showing interest in buying TikTok.

MrBeast took to X, tweeting “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned,”

MrBeast’s net worth was estimated at $85 million by Forbes in late 2024, while the value of TikTok’s U.S. operations is estimated to be between $40 billion to 50 billion. Given these figures, he would be able to complete the deal on his own

Later, MrBeast confirmed in another tweet that following his initial tweet, he had been contacted by several billionaires interested in buying TikTok. However, MrBeast did not clarify who had reached out to him.

He tweeted, “Unironically, I’ve had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this, let’s see if we can pull this off”
